Chirag Kumar Paswan was born in Delhi, India, on October 31, 1982. He was raised by his parents, Ram Vilas Paswan and Reena Paswan. Paswan also has an uncle named Ram Chandra Paswan.

Academically, Paswan is a third-semester college dropout. He studied computer engineering but pursued other endeavours after dropping out.

Career

Chirag Paswan started his acting career after leaving college during his third semester. He debuted in the 2011 Hindi film “Miley Naa Miley Hum” alongside Kangana Ranaut.

In 2014, Paswan contested the Lok Sabha elections for the Lok Janshakti Party in the Jamui constituency.

He won the seat, defeating his Rashtriya Janata Dal opponent by over 85,000 votes. Paswan retained this seat in the 2019 elections, securing over 528,000 votes.

On June 14, 2021, Paswan was replaced as the Lok Sabha leader of the Lok Janshakti Party by his uncle Pashupati Kumar Paras. A day later, Paswan expelled five party MPs, including Paras and his cousin Prince Raj, for “anti-party activities.”

Then, on June 10, 2024, Chirag Paswan was nominated as the Union Cabinet Minister for Food Processing in India under the BJP government.
